NOPD: Suspect shoots at officers; standoff under way

A standoff between New Orleans police and a suspect who allegedly shot at police officers is now under way in the Upper Ninth Ward.

An NOPD spokesperson say the officer in need of assistance call came just before 7 p.m. Saturday from North Tonti Street near Clouet Street.

The spokesperson says intial reports state that the suspect shot at officers who were executing a warrant. So far, no injuries have been reported.

The suspect has reportedly barricaded himself inside a house in the area.

The standoff is taking place about a block from where a deadly shooting happened earlier in the day on Saturday. Police have not said if this incident is connected to that shooting, which took place about five hours prior.

This is a developing story.
