A Louisiana State Police K-9 assigned to Troop NOLA had a busy stretch in New Orleans this week, helping troopers zero in on suspects in several investigations, including a Central City shooting and two traffic-stop cases, according to officials. K-9 Dax is credited with locating four people wanted in the shooting and assisting at stops where troopers recovered firearms, illegal prescription pills and narcotics. Troop leaders say the dog’s alerts and tracking helped move multiple cases across the city from open questions to quick arrests.
Dax Locates Suspects In Central City Shooting
According to WDSU, K-9 Dax helped troopers track down four people sought in connection with a shooting on Philip Street in Central City. Troopers say Dax found two suspects hiding under homes and led investigators to two additional people. Multiple firearms were recovered during the operation, which was part of a coordinated response involving Troop NOLA and other local investigators.
Traffic Stops Produce Pills, Drugs And Arrests
State police also credit Dax with backing up a traffic stop at N. Galvez Street and Franklin Avenue after a driver refused to pull over and led troopers on a chase. Once the vehicle was finally stopped, the K-9’s alert helped troopers uncover multiple illegal prescription pills and take the driver into custody, WDSU reports.
Troop NOLA said Dax was called in again at a Bartholomew Street stop, where officers recovered crack cocaine, marijuana, oxycodone pills and drug paraphernalia and arrested a suspect who tried to flee. The agency later praised the K-9 on social media, writing, “K‑9 Dax continues to prove why he’s one of the best. Fearless, focused, and always ready to serve.”
Troop NOLA’s Role And Record
Troop NOLA, launched in March 2024 as a Louisiana State Police unit embedded in the city, has been used for proactive patrols, traffic enforcement and intelligence-led investigations. Local coverage notes the unit recorded roughly 500 arrests and hundreds of seizures in its first year, a tally supporters say shows the unit’s impact, according to WVUE. State and local officials say canine teams like Dax help investigators locate evidence and suspects that might otherwise go unnoticed…
