NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Mayor Helena Moreno, Councilman Freddie King and several agencies came together to find a strategy to close two riverfront encampments near Crescent Park and NSA on Tuesday, April 14.
Moreno said this “all-hands on deck approach” is to figure out which services people without housing need and providing a place for them to stay.
“Obviously, we want to do everything to assist homeless individuals, and we’ll be doing that,” Moreno said. “But at the same time, we can’t continue to have people remain in areas that are unsafe, and they could be injured.”
The following agencies and offices involved include the following: Office of Homeless Services, Office of Community Development, the New Orleans Police Department, Army Corps of Engineers, Office of Public Safety, State Police, Harbor Police, Louisiana National Guard Foundation (LANG), Sanitation, Parks and Park Ways, and Audubon Institute…
