‘Beautiful angel’: Jezreel Poleate remembered on anniversary of Warehouse District mass shooting

NEW ORLEANS — On Tuesday, loved ones gathered at the spot where Jezreel Poleate lost her life in a mass shooting two years ago, to the day.

Tealight candles lined the sidewalk outside of Republic NOLA on South Peters Street, alongside two photos of Jezreel. Loved ones clung to pink and purple balloons that would later be sent off into the evening sky, as some shared memories of the young woman.

“A beautiful, beautiful angel, she loved people, everybody was her relative, and she also loved to sing,” Sharon Poleate described her only daughter.

Jezreel was a part of her church and school choirs and a majorette at Helen Cox High School, according to her mother…
