STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City will launch a pilot program requiring chronic speeding violators to install devices in their vehicles that prevent them from exceeding posted speed limits thanks to a new state law.
Gov. Kathy Hochul’s FY2027 budget includes a section devoted to safeguarding New York’s roads, which allows the city to establish the program targeting drivers with documented patterns of speeding violations. These motorists, referred to as “super speeders,” will be required to install Intelligent Speed Assistance devices in their vehicles.
