Fire Tears Through Montclair Clothing Shop, Prompts Evacuation of Apartments

A fire tore through a first-floor women’s clothing store, prompting the evacuation of the three-story building in Montclair on Monday morning, according to witnesses and authorities.

Deputy Fire Chief Michael Lizza said firefighters responded to Nouvelle Boutique, 629 Valley Road, shortly after 7:30 a.m. No injuries had been reported as of 8:30 a.m., Lizza said. A portion of Valley Road was closed as firefighters worked the blaze.

Crews from Montclair and at least three other towns, including West Orange, Orange and Nutley, worked at the scene. Firefighters extended a ladder truck to the roof, and a light haze of smoke was seen from the street…
