Protester with Tibetan flag sets himself on fire outside UN Headquarters in New York

A protester carrying a Tibetan flag set himself on fire outside United Nations Headquarters in New York City on Thursday evening, according to the New York Police Department.

The man was captured on U.N. surveillance footage planting the flag on a sidewalk near East 42nd Street and First Avenue at approximately 6:32 p.m., an NYPD spokesperson said. He then self-immolated.

“FDNY and NYPD responded to a male with severe burns throughout his body,” the spokesperson told The Mirror US. “He was transported to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing.”…
