A petition calls for Mamdani to skip the 9/11 memorial. What do Staten Islanders think?

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As New York prepares to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, a petition is calling on New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani not to attend the annual memorial ceremony.

The petition was launched by Giovanni Galante, a 9/11 widower whose wife, Grace Catherine Galante, worked on the 105th floor of the North Tower.

As of Aug. 3, the petition had drawn more than 72,000 signatures on Change.org. However, the number of signers who are relatives of 9/11 victims has not been independently verified…
