NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Be sure to move that vehicle for alternate side parking or risk getting something that may be more frustrating than a ticket.
The contentious “shame stickers” from the New York City Department of Sanitation returned to city streets on Tuesday, ending a 14-year ban on the practice of using window stickers for Alternate Side Parking violators.

Vehicles along West 90th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West were some of the first to get the new neon green, police badge-shaped stickers.
“This vehicle violated NYC street cleaning rules; as a result, this street could not be properly cleaned,” it read.

“Street cleaning only works when cars move,” said New York City Council Member Gale Brewer, who was a prime sponsor of the bill. “Warning stickers were one of the City’s most effective tools for improving compliance before they were banned in 2012.
