Five men were caught on a surveillance camera opening a manhole and entering the sewer system at the intersection of Wantagh Avenue and Jerusalem Avenue at 1:14 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, a Nassau County Police spokesman said.
The spokesman said that when police arrived at the scene, the sewer system was searched but that no one could be located. The incident is being investigated by the 7th Precinct Detective Squad, the spokesman said.
On Aug. 18, several other men were recorded coming out of a New York City manhole late at night and running off. There have been other recent incidents of people exiting the sewer system through manhole covers in both Queens and Brooklyn, according to previously published reports…
