Jersey City BOE seeks audits before admin as HCPO probes special ed report

The Jersey City Board of Education is contemplating a resolution that would have any audit forwarded to them before the administration, after a special education audit was forwarded to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office when the board only heard a presentation.

After the presentation of the special education summary audit report last week, board trustees were mystified that they were not privy to the details of the full report prior to the administration handing it to law enforcement, which they eventually said was the HCPO.

Board President Noemi Velazquez wished the board had time to review the summary report before it was made public, to parent applause, noting the board still doesn’t fully grasp everything that occurred.

“We’re just finding this out, and now the public is coming to speak in a few minutes. And I’m sure that we’re going to get a list of issues they’re going to have with this, but in advance, had we known, we would have been able to properly prepare for what we have received,” Morris said…
