Montclair Council Split on Rules for Valet Parking. Some Want it Banned

A local law that would have regulated valet parking in Montclair failed in a 3-3 vote on Tuesday as the council also proposed withdrawing the ability for people to rent street spots, something businesses do to facilitate the service.

While council members supporting the ordinance said the restrictions are appropriate, opponents argued the town should instead enact an outright ban on valet parking.

“I am totally opposed to valet parking — hands down,” Mayor Renee Baskerville said.

Proposed Rules

Complete Streets Director Jacob Nieman said that the township has no rules in place to regulate the valet parking already happening, and the local law would require property owners to rent spaces off the street for valet.
