Man found guilty in shooting death of three men in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A 27-year-old man was found guilty in the August 2023 shooting death of three men at a residence on Stallings Court.

According to Newport News Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Jones, Dimair Jones was charged with three counts of felony first degree murder, three counts of felony use of a firearm in the commission of murder and one count of felony malicious shooting in an occupied building.

Three men were pronounced dead at the scene following the shooting just before 1 a.m. on Aug. 8, 2023. The slain men were identified as 61-year-old Alvin Eugene Holiday, 60-year-old Monroe McGilvary and 36-year-old Derek Rico Jones.

In a press conference, Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew said he believed the shooting stemmed from an argument over drugs after recovering cocaine and marijuana in the house.
