Three applicants, including a controversial former member, are seeking to temporarily fill the Isle of Wight County School Board’s District 5 seat, recently vacated by John Collick.
The four remaining School Board members set a 12-day window on May 21 that expired at the end of the day on June 1 for applicants to submit a letter of interest, resume, community reference and proof of residency within District 5 to School Board Clerk Jessica Whitlow. In addition to former School Board member Herb De Groft, the School Board received applications from Eric Scott and retiring Westside Elementary teacher Stella Bradshaw.
State law allows the board to name an interim appointee within 45 days of a vacancy to fill the role until a special election can be held for the remainder of Collick’s term.
