NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News Police have arrested a second suspect in connection to a 5-year-old child’s death that happened on Walden Pond Court on July 16, according to the Newport News Police Department.

At around 2:19 p.m. on July 16, officers responded to the 300 block of Walden Pond Court in reference to an unresponsive 5-year-old boy. The boy was transported to a local hospital after medics attempted life-saving measures. He died from his injuries in the evening of July 16.
After the Office of the Medical Examiner performed an autopsy, it was determined that the child died from internal injuries due to blunt force trauma. After this discovery, the department began investigating the incident as a homicide.
The boy’s mother, Katrina Sudberry, 27, of Newport News, was arrested on July 17. She was charged with second-degree murder and child abuse.
After police investigated the homicide further, Gregory Martin, 30, was identified as another suspect. On July 21, he was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, child abuse/ neglect causing serious injury and sex offender registry: Failure or false info…
