Bridge traffic shift to be implemented between Route 17 and Route 134 in York County

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — As part of the Route 134 Bridge over Route 17 Rehabilitation Project, a new traffic shift between both routes is scheduled to be implemented Tuesday, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

VDOT’s contractor crews are scheduled to implement a traffic shift for southbound traffic at the on-ramp and bridge from Route 17 to Route 134 on Aug. 4. From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on that day, crews will temporarily close the on-ramp to install the traffic shift. A signed detour will be in place.

The Route 134 bridge will be closed to northbound traffic during this traffic shift, which will be in place through late 2026. VDOT has advised that all work is dependent on the weather and schedules.

In July 2025, the ramp from Route 134 north to Route 17 south was closed to allow southbound Route 134 traffic to use the bridge’s northbound side while crews worked on the southbound side…
