WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) — A woman was arrested after eluding law enforcement in York County Sunday evening, according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.
Ashley Cooke, 36, of Williamsburg, was charged with the following:
- Eluding law enforcement
- Reckless driving (105 mph in a 55 mph zone)
- Two counts of child endangerment
- Two counts of reckless driving
- Three more traffic offenses
At around 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 9, deputies saw a gray Nissan sedan traveling at a high speed through James York Plaza’s parking lot. As the car left the parking lot, Cooke didn’t stop at a stop sign.
Deputies then attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Cooke refused to stop, accelerating onto Merrimac Trail before continuing onto Route 199, where speeds went over 90 mph. Due to the car’s high speed and traffic conditions, deputies terminated the traffic stop for the public’s safety.
Shortly after, the Virginia State Police found the abandoned Nissan on I-64. A witness saw Cooke leaving the scene in another car. The witness described Cooke, the car and its license plate to law enforcement…
