NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Safety Service Patrol professional is dead after a crash on I-64 near the Jefferson Avenue overpass in Newport News Saturday morning, according to the Virginia State Police (VSP).
At around 3:12 a.m. on Sept. 19, the agency responded to a reported sleeping motorist on westbound I-64 at the Jefferson Avenue overpass.
The preliminary investigation determined that a Kia Sorento driven by Wanagi Gordon, 44, of Newport News, hit a responding VSP vehicle in the rear. The trooper was outside the vehicle at the time and wasn’t injured…
