Amtrak Virginia carried record number of passengers

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Amtrak carried a record number of passengers in Virginia in 2025, according to the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority.

Nearly 1.5 million people climbed aboard one of the four state-supported routes originating or terminating in Norfolk, Newport News, Richmond or Roanoke. It’s a nearly 8% increase from the previous year.

In Hampton Roads, more than 400,000 passengers boarded or disembarked from stations in Norfolk, Newport News and Williamsburg in federal fiscal year 2025, according to Amtrak…
