VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Beach city officials denied all claims for lost profits submitted by Oceanfront businesses impacted by a temporary curfew. The city cited both Virginia Code and sovereign immunity as legal bases for the denials.
The Virginia Beach City Council approved the 9:30 p.m. all-ages curfew on April 16 as a temporary public safety measure. It went into effect the following two nights. A judge blocked the final 9:30 p.m. curfew scheduled for April 24.
Virginia Beach businesses can seek compensation for curfew losses
The city announced that business owners who lost money during the all-ages curfew could file a claim through the Risk Management Office. Eight Oceanfront businesses submitted documentation of lost profits during the curfew’s implementation, the city confirmed.
