The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has secured a court‑approved settlement with Radius Recycling Inc. (formerly Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc.) for violations DTSC says it identified during multiple inspections and fire‑related investigations at the company’s West Oakland metal shredding facility.
The settlement addresses 21 violations of the Hazardous Waste Control Law, including violations stemming from fires in June 2018, June 2020 and August 2023, as well as violations discovered during DTSC inspections in May 2022, November 2023 and April 2025, according to DTSC.
