If you like history — and hot dogs — the Pardee Home Museum is the place to be this weekend, when Gilded Age historic home hosts its annual Fourth of July celebration. For jazz aficionados, there are shows at the Piedmont Piano Company and the Sound Room.
The City of Oakland is expecting large crowds at Lake Merritt for the holiday weekend and has announced the closure of various streets starting on July 3. While the I-580’s Lakeshore and Grand Avenue exits will remain open, Beacon Street, Boden Way, Brooklyn Avenue, Wayne Avenue, Hanover Avenue, and the Lakeshore Cul-de-Sac will be closed at Lakeshore Avenue, and El Embarcadero will be closed. Also, expect partial street closures on 16th through 19th streets near Broadway, Telegraph Avenue and San Pablo Avenue. The city has a map and a complete list of street closures.

The Pardee Home was built in 1868 for the family of Enoch Pardee, who served as mayor of Oakland, state assemblyman, and state senator, and it is one of several Oakland historic homes still standing.
