San Francisco’s beloved annual seafood boil is just around the corner

In the Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco, a beloved community tradition is set to return for the sixth year in a row. Gumbo Social, a cornerstone of local culinary culture, is gearing up for its 6th Annual All-You-Can-Eat Seafood Boil. This event promises to be more than just a feast; it’s a celebration of community spirit and culinary delight. Located at the intersection of 3rd Street and Thornton Avenue, Gumbo Social transforms an ordinary parking lot into a lively hub of music, food, and fun, drawing seafood lovers and families from across the city.

Spend the afternoon eating and celebrating community at Gumbo Social’s 6th Annual All-You-Can-Eat Seafood Boil, our biggest summer tradition and Mr. Gumbo’s annual birthday celebration.Presented in partnership with Sunday Streets Bayview, this outdoor feast transforms the parking lot next to Gumbo Social into a lively neighborhood gathering filled with incredible food, live entertainment, and Bayview hospitality.The seafood boil includes:🍤 Shrimp🌭 Smoked sausage🥔 Baby potatoes🌽 Sweet corn🧈 Butter,🌶️ Old Bay & Cajun seasoningFrom 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM (or until they sell out), enjoy unlimited trips back for more seafood. The seafood boil is a testament to Gumbo Social’s commitment to fresh, local flavors, featuring a delicious assortment of shrimp, smoked sausage, baby potatoes, and sweet corn,  all seasoned to perfection with butter and Cajun spices. For Chef Dontaye Ball, the annual seafood boil is more than an event; it is a defining moment that captures Gumbo Social’s mission to bring people together. “It’s our biggest summer tradition,” Chef Ball says. The seafood boil started as a modest gathering at Sunset Farmers Market to celebrate Mr. Gumbo’s birthday, but for the second year in a row it has become a larger event as part of Sunday Streets, Bayview. 

Each year, the event brings together a variety of guests, from seasoned regulars who wax nostalgic about past boils to first-time attendees eager to immerse themselves in the experience. The event also features live music and guest vendors, creating an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels welcome. “Whether you’re a longtime Gumbo Social regular or joining us for the first time, this is one meal you’ll remember,” Chef Ball says.

The best part of the event is that everyone is welcome. The totally FREE Seafood Boil Block Party is from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, featuring live music, guest food vendors including Café Mélange, and more.No purchase is required to enjoy the block party.
