For Chef Dontaye Ball, the annual seafood boil is more than an event; it is a defining moment that captures Gumbo Social’s mission to bring people together. “It’s our biggest summer tradition,” Chef Ball says. The seafood boil started as a modest gathering at Sunset Farmers Market to celebrate Mr. Gumbo’s birthday, but for the second year in a row it has become a larger event as part of Sunday Streets, Bayview.
Each year, the event brings together a variety of guests, from seasoned regulars who wax nostalgic about past boils to first-time attendees eager to immerse themselves in the experience. The event also features live music and guest vendors, creating an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels welcome. “Whether you’re a longtime Gumbo Social regular or joining us for the first time, this is one meal you’ll remember,” Chef Ball says.
