S.F. police arrest 4 people allegedly linked to sale of new drug more potent than fentanyl

Four people were arrested following a months-long investigation into counterfeit pill sales triggered by the overdose death of a 16-year-old in April, San Francisco authorities said Monday afternoon.

Dante Lacourte was the city’s first known victim of a combination of drugs including cychlorphine, a new synthetic opioid 10 times more potent than fentanyl. Police said they collected what appeared to be pharmaceutical medication at Lacourte’s home on Bush Street, where his mother found him dead from a suspected overdose. They began hunting for the source.
