Eli’s Mile High Club, the venue that evolved from a blues club to a haven for punk fans over its 50 years in Oakland, is set to close at the end of October.
The club, located at 3629 Martin Luther King Way, near the MacArthur BART station and in the shadow of Interstate 580, announced its closure on Instagram Wednesday afternoon. In its post, Eli’s stressed that it would work to reopen, and it called on patrons of the Oakland institution to voice their support to the Oakland City Council and the office of Mayor Barbara Lee.
“If you have ever played a show, thrown a benefit, been an artist in our markets, adopted a dog from (Oakland Animal Services), watched the baseball team ‘the Beers,’ danced at Blues nights, played pool, grabbed a bite to eat with friends, are homies with this amazing staff, or simply slapped your sticker or tag on our walls, let them know that 50 years of community culture is important,” the post read…
