ALAMEDA, Calif. (KRON) — A fire that broke out at a vacant multi-story building in Alameda early Thursday quickly spread through the entire structure. Now, the search is on for a possible victim who was known to stay in the building, according to fire officials.
Firefighters responded before 3 a.m. to the 2300 block of Rainbow Court to battle the structure fire. The building was part of the old Alameda Naval Air Station. Video from the scene shows plumes of smoke coming from a large building fully engulfed in flames.
The blaze caused the building’s roof to collapse. The flames have since been extinguished.
The fire department told KRON4 that crews are searching for a homeless person known to stay in the building. That person is currently unaccounted for. It is unknown if their remains may be inside…
