Homicide suspect fatally shot by police in West Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. ( KRON ) — The suspect in a homicide was shot and killed by Oakland Police Department officers Wednesday night in the 1000 block of 16th Street, Oakland police confirmed. No police officers were injured in the shooting.

At around 9:30 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department was investigating a homicide in Oakland and requested assistance from Oakland PD in making an arrest of a suspect. While Oakland police were on scene to secure the area, the suspect came out of a home with a firearm, according to OPD.

Multiple Oakland PD officers fired their weapons at the homicide suspect. The suspect was struck by the gunfire, and officers began to give first aid before medical personnel arrived. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities did not disclose how many officers fired weapons, how many shots were fired or how many times the suspect was struck.

The Oakland PD officers who shot at the suspect were placed on paid administrative leave, which is in accordance with policy, the department said.
