Gun found in student’s backpack at Pinole Valley HS Monday

(KRON) — A high school in Pinole was placed on lockdown Monday after police received a report of a student possibly in possession of a firearm. The suspected student was detained as officers uncovered a ghost gun inside their backpack, the Pinole Police Department said.

It is unclear whether the student was arrested or will face criminal charges. Police said Tuesday that “the case has been forwarded for further review consistent with California law.”

Self-manufactured guns using 3-D printing may still be considered firearms under California law, even if incomplete. “Even incomplete or inoperable firearms can still meet the legal definition of a firearm and pose serious safety concerns,” Pinole PD said.
