A No-Shopping Weeknight Reset for Union Square

Union Square is still San Francisco’s best-known shopping district, but it is also being reworked as a place to linger after work. The San Francisco Standard described the neighborhood in March as being in transition, with local leaders pushing for more food, culture and public life. The Union Square Alliance says the Powell Street Improvement Project is expected to start construction in late 2026, with completion targeted for late 2027.

Make Wednesday your anchor. Rae Studios, a San Francisco dance studio, leads free Cardio Dance Wednesdays in Union Square from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The next sessions after May 11 are Shuffle on May 13, BollyX on May 20 and Salsa on May 27. The Union Square Alliance says participants should RSVP through Rae Studios or be ready to sign a waiver on site…
