Unlicensed driver from Mexico caught behind wheel on State Road 44

An unlicensed driver from Mexico was arrested when he was caught behind the wheel on State Road 44.

A deputy stopped 32-year-old David Vera Sierra at the intersection of State Road 44 and County Road 475 in Wildwood around 7 a.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. His silver Toyota Prius had a cracked windshield, obscuring his view of the road.

When asked for his driver’s license, Vera Sierra instead handed over a passport. He claimed he has been awaiting approval to be granted a driver’s license after submitting the necessary documents. A check with dispatch confirmed he did not possess a valid driver’s license or an ID card in the United States, the report said…
