Teacher arrested on DUI charge while trying to leave school in Leesburg

A Clermont woman was arrested after driving drunk in the parking lot of a behavioral school.

Officers responded to Better Life Academy, located at 1650 W Main St., regarding an intoxicated teacher, 55-year-old Amy Kathleen Shabluk, behind the wheel around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

Another employee had seen her driving and asked her to turn off the vehicle. He also closed and locked the parking lot gate so she could not drive away. He knew she was drunk because an officer had already been called to the school when employees smelled alcohol on her breath, the report said.

During that call, she was unsteady enough to use walls and countertops for support. An officer had also found an open bottle of Captain Morgan in the trunk of her vehicle, the report said…
