Convicted felon living in Densan Park arrested with loaded weapon

A convicted felon living in the Densan Park development in Oxford was arrested after law enforcement discovered a loaded weapon in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

Phillip Spencer, 57, was arrested Saturday on two felony counts of possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was conducting stationary traffic enforcement near County Road 101 and County Road 104 when he observed a black Nissan Armada traveling 53 mph in a 35 mph zone. The deputy initiated a traffic stop just east of NE 49th Drive and 125th Loop at Densan Park.

Upon making contact with Spencer, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, the deputy immediately detected the odor of fresh marijuana.
