Suspect in e-bike theft at Dallas Inn caught with wire stolen from construction sites

A Summerfield man who allegedly swiped an electric bike from outside the Dallas Inn found himself facing a slew of felony charges after deputies tracked the bike to his bedroom — and discovered 90 pounds of stolen electrical wire sitting right next to it.

The investigation kicked off Tuesday morning when a patron at the Dallas Inn, located on U.S. 301, realized his red Hidoes HDB6 e-bike had been stolen from the front sidewalk the night before. Fortunately for the owner, the bike was equipped with a GPS tracker pinging directly to a home on Southeast 41st Terrace.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies reviewed the bar’s surveillance footage, which showed a man smoking a cigarette outside the Dallas Inn at about 9:10 p.m. Monday before scoping out the area and rolling off with the e-bike.

Armed with the GPS data and an anonymous tip that the suspect was selling stolen goods on Facebook Marketplace, multiple deputies executed a search warrant Thursday at the Southeast 41st Terrace home…
