A pair from Summerfield were arrested after trespassing on an active construction site to steal from the dumpsters.
A resident across the street from several newly constructed homes on Southeast 23rd Avenue in Summerfield was sitting on his front porch when he noticed flashlights moving around the area around 10:20 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. He monitored the suspects, later identified as 42-year-old Shannon Helean Verticelli and 41-year-old Christina Marie Vanhorn, believing someone had entered one of the homes.
Shortly after, the resident heard a voice say, “Let’s get out of here,” as a dark Ford SUV arrived to pick them up. He saw the suspects get into the rear driver-side seat and what he believed to be the front passenger seat before the vehicle left southbound. Law enforcement responding to the potential burglary stopped a matching Ford Expedition with four occupants, the report said.
A clear plastic bag of stripped copper wire and materials consistent with residential construction supplies sat on the rear-passenger seat between Verticelli and Vanhorn. The former stated she and the latter were walking toward Highway 42 to meet her brother for a ride home after he ran errands.
