Man allegedly spits on woman he thinks took his phone at the park

A Lady Lake man was arrested for battery after allegedly trying to run a woman off the road and spitting on her.

An officer responded to what was originally believed to be a civil disagreement in Groveland at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Groveland Police Department. However, the female victim advised that 49-year-old Matthew Jospeh Acker had tried to run her off the road.

She explained they were leaving a park when the incident happened. Acker believed she had taken his phone, which she stated had been left on one of the benches or tables at the park. He then tried to run her off the road with children in the car. Acker also called her several derogatory names and spat on her, the report said.

With corroboration from a witness, the officers got Acker to agree to meet them at the GPD. He wrote a statement and was subsequently taken into custody without incident, the report said…
