Construction begins on neon Route 66 art installation along I-44

OKLAHOMA CITY – Construction began on Monday for an attraction that honors the centennial of Route 66.

The art installation named “Kicks 66” is a 35-foot neon boot that will sit at 1866 NE 63rd St., located just to the east of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

The large installation was originally planned for near Classen Boulevard and Northwest 25th Street, but city leaders said the location near the museum was a better fit after receiving residents’ concerns…
