UPDATE: Sentencing deferred in obstruction case

NEWKIRK — Megan Kay Shelby, 47, Oklahoma City, appeared in district court last week before Judge David Wilkie and entered a guilty plea to misdemeanor counts of obstructing an officer and unsafe lane use. The felony count of assault and battery on a police officer was dismissed. Sentencing is deferred for three years and she is ordered to attend anger management classes and complete 80 hours of community service.

Jury trial set for defendant accused of assaulting an officer

NEWKIRK — A jury trial is set for Megan Kay Shelby, 46, Oklahoma City, in Kay County District Court.

Shelby is facing a felony count of battery and assault on a police officer and two misdemeanor charges.

Newkirk police officer Jacye Grimm reports in the affidavit that on June 8, 2024, when she initiated a traffic stop near Peach and South. Grimm identified Shelby as the driver of the vehicle and attempted to issue a citation for an unsafe lane change.

Shelby reportedly refused to sign the citation. Grimm then reportedly asked Shelby to step out of the car and attempted to arrest her. Shelby reportedly jerked away from the officer and attempted to get back in the vehicle…
