High winds contribute to electrical fire in Midwest City

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (KFOR) – The Midwest City Fire Department responded to a house fire Monday morning following overnight storms.

Officials say crews responded to a home in the 500 block of Lockheed Drive at around 11:30 a.m. After the initial investigation, firefighters believe that strong winds caused a tree branch to fall onto an electric supply line. This pulled the exterior wires, leading to an electrical fire in the attic.

Someone passing by noticed the smoke and called 911. Firefighters arrived on scene quickly and began working to put out the fire.

“Last night’s high winds have left weakened tree branches and compromised utility lines across the area. Please inspect your property. If you see downed power lines or tree limbs leaning heavily on electrical service lines, do not touch them. Contact OG&E immediately.” said Midwest City FD on social media…
