OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — 27-year-old Mardel Gonzalez is facing felony charges for allegedly placing multiple skimming devices on gas pumps at 7-Eleven stores across the metro since 2022.
Skimming devices are illegal card readers placed on top of real card readers. They are used to steal credit and debit card information. Oftentimes, you don’t even realize they are there.
“So it’s almost like someone’s making a photocopy of your credit card right there at the gas station,” said Patrick Allmond, a digital expert with Stop Doing Nothing Media.
