Unsolved State Fair murders inspires new law for reviewing cold cases in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH) — Oklahoma families waiting for answers in unsolved murder cases may soon have a new path to justice.

Governor Kevin Stitt has signed Senate Bill 1636 into law, creating a formal process to review cold cases. Lawmakers say the measure is designed to help families who have spent years without answers.

The legislation was inspired in part by one of Oklahoma’s most well-known unsolved cases. Nearly 39 years ago, Cheryl Genzer and Lisa Pennington disappeared from the State Fair. Their bodies were later found in a shallow grave, but the case has never been solved…
