Nebraska’s Warmer Than Normal Temperatures Could Bring One of the Hottest Years in State History

Omaha, NE- Nebraska is on track for one of its warmest years on record, following exceptionally warm temperatures in earlier months of this year.

According to the National Weather Service, Nebraska cities, including Omaha, Lincoln and Norfolk, recorded top-10 warmest February and March periods this year, with temperatures running 8 to 10 degrees above average. Similar conditions were also reported in North Platte, Kearney and Scottsbluff.

While April and May have brought cooler weather, forecasters say a strengthening El Nino, also known as the naturally occurring warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern parts of the Pacific Ocean, could bring more above-average temperatures later into the year…
