OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Omaha Public Schools has scheduled three meetings to give the public an opportunity to learn more about the budget cuts the district plans to implement in order to cope with its state funding shortfall.
A state-aid miscalculation by the Nebraska Department of Education resulted in OPS getting less in state aid this year than it did last school year.
Last November, the state warned districts that they had been overpaid and to expect those allocation amounts to be made up in the next budget year. At that time, the estimated impact for OPS was at least $61 million, and the district warned taxpayers they would likely need to raise the levy to make up for the state’s TEEOSA miscalculation.
