OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Charges have been dropped against a man with cognitive disabilities who authorities said admitted he was chasing two girls in a park because he wanted to have sex with them.
At his preliminary hearing on Tuesday morning, Judge Stephanie Shearer dismissed the two felony counts of child abuse filed against Zachary Vinton, who has cognitive disabilities. Court documents state there was insufficient evidence to proceed with either of the charges.
Vinton was arrested April 16 after accusations that he had chased two girls through a park in southwest Omaha. Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies reported that Vinton chased two young girls in the park near 196th and V streets, and tried to grab one of the girls’ hair.
When questioned by sheriff deputies, Vinton initially denied running after the girls but authorities said he eventually admitted he was chasing the girls because he wanted to have sex with them…
