OMAHA, Neb. — A new federal electronic health record system is coming to the Omaha VA Medical Center, consolidating veteran medical records into a single platform accessible with one click.
U.S. Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs Paul Lawrence visited the Omaha VA on Wednesday to introduce the program, which uses artificial intelligence to streamline access to patient data from the time a veteran enlists through their care at the VA.
How the current system works
The Omaha VA currently uses multiple software platforms to access patient information. Lindsay Stephan, administrative officer for the associate director at the Omaha VA, said providers must navigate several systems to review a single patient’s record.
“We have a specific record software system for our lab results that we use, we have imaging results,” Stephan said. “So right now our providers are taking time in about three different systems to review a patient’s record.”
