I’ve never gone wrong with gifting a box of meat in my life. I routinely send my dad (who lives six states away from me) a frozen box of steaks for his birthday, Christmas, and as a general pick-me-up, and he always sends me photos of it prepared (which feels like a gift for me).

With the sheer amount of meat boxes that I’ve gifted over the past few years, I was thrilled to spend the last month testing a range of cuts from Omaha Steaks, one of the original meat delivery companies (which was actually founded in 1917!). Omaha Steaks started as a small father-and-son butcher shop in Omaha, Nebraska. It expanded into retail stores in 1976 and was an early adopter of e-commerce, launching online sales in 1990. More than 100 years after opening, it’s still one of the biggest names in the meat delivery world.

I tried a variety of signature cuts, ready-to-cook meals, and even the legendary apple tartlets, and found a few standouts. I’d happily send these three boxes to friends and family (or keep stocked in my own freezer).

  • 1 (2 lbs.) Fully Cooked Beef Pot Roast
  • 1 (24 oz. pkg.) One-Pan Meal: Tortellini in Filet Mignon Bolognese
  • 1 (24 oz. pkg.) One-Pan Meal: Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo
  • 1 (24 oz. pkg.) One-Pan Meal: Tempura Orange Chicken
  • 4 (4.5 oz.) Chicken Fried Chicken
  • 1 (18 oz. pkg.) Italian-Style Beef Meatballs
  • 4 (3 oz.) Individual Baguettes With Garlic Butter

I reached for these on busy weeknights, and especially loved the Chicken Fried Chicken (and was thrilled it came with four portions so I was able to have it a few more times). The outside coating was crunchy, and the meat in the center remained ever-so juicy. After a quick trip in the oven, the warm baguettes tasted like they had just come from a bakery — crispy on the outside and plush on the inside…
