Omaha police K-9 resuscitated after being strangled during armed standoff

OMAHA, Neb. — An Omaha police K-9 is recovering after police say a man strangled him until he lost consciousness and stopped breathing during an armed barricade Thursday night.

Officers arrested 40-year-old Raynard Bass following the hourslong standoff, which began shortly before 7 p.m. with a reported shoplifting at Von Maur in Omaha.

An OPD helicopter that was nearby spotted Bass leaving the store in a dark-colored SUV. When a marked police cruiser attempted a traffic stop, Bass did not stop. Officers did not pursue him, but the helicopter continued tracking the SUV…
