Neighbors describe chaos as new details emegre in Sunday night standoff

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Police are confirming new details about the man who died by suicide after an hours-long standoff Sunday night in southwest Omaha.

The pursuit started near 40th and Cuming streets and ended near 144th and Shirley streets, investigators said. The man had warrants and was accused of fleeing from police during a traffic stop last month.

Family releases photo

At the family’s request, police released a photo of 44-year-old Daniel Read showing him in a United States Marines uniform. Police said he was not active duty at the time of the standoff.

Read had shared posts on social media that referenced PTSD. It is not clear if that played any role in Sunday’s events.
