Harlan man in custody after troopers find methamphetamine in Pringles can on I-80 near Council Bluffs

COUNCIL BLUFFS — A Harlan man was arrested on multiple drug charges after Iowa State Patrol troopers discovered methamphetamine during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Council Bluffs on April 23, 2026, according to court records.

Michael Leroy Arnold, 54, of, Harlan, was taken into custody and jailed in the Pottawattamie County Jail following the stop at approximately 11:24 p.m. near mile marker 8.5 eastbound on I-80.

Court documents state Trooper Raes and Trooper Peter conducted a traffic stop on a white 2014 Ford Focus, registered to Arnold, after radar showed the vehicle traveling 69-70 mph in a 65 mph zone. A certified narcotic detection dog, Pape, alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. A probable cause search located a crystal substance, identified by the trooper as methamphetamine based on training and experience, inside a Pringles can in the rear seat. The total amount was approximately one-quarter pound.
