OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A feature film premiering Thursday at Film Streams centers around Nebraska’s Safe Haven Law, first passed in 2008.
Because the law had no age limit, parents from across the country traveled to Nebraska and surrendered children of all ages to hospitals. The film’s director said the family seen in his movie can offer a glimpse into the mindset of parents during that time.
Film explores controversial law
Director Cole Webley said he was familiar with the Safe Haven Law when he read the script for his first feature film.
The law was passed in 2008 and allowed parents to surrender their children to Nebraska hospitals but gave no age restrictions. Before the law was changed, 36 children were surrendered in 127 days…
