Gretna breaks ground on new shopping center

GRETNA, Neb. (WOWT) — A groundbreaking was held for what will become Gretna’s newest shopping center.

The Gretna Crossing Shopping Center will feature half a million square feet of retail space and restaurants on 70 acres at the intersection of 192nd Street and Highway 370. The development is the latest project along the fast-growing Highway 370 corridor.

Mayor Mike Evans said the project fits the city’s vision for growth.

“We’re really trying to build a future of our community. So we don’t want the growth just to be bigger. We want it to be better and to really fit our town,” Evans said. “So that’s what makes me happy. It’s not that we’re growing, but that we’re getting projects that our community really wants.”

Job opportunities expected

Evans said one of the most exciting aspects of the new shopping center are the job opportunities it will bring to Gretna, starting with construction.

“Those contractors will come here, they’ll eat, they’ll shop, they’ll get gas. And so that will ripple through the economy,” Evans said. “And additionally, all the jobs for the stores, and there’s a lot of jobs. While they always say there are service jobs, those are still really good jobs. And there will be managers along with that.”…
